"Built to Last" furniture is handcrafted using
dimensional plastic lumber made of HDPE (high density polyethylene). It
is a dense material formulated from recycled milk jugs and cartons.
Because of its dense nature it is heavier than wood. UV protection is
mixed in. HDPE should not be confused with resin and other plastics
that oxidize and become impossible to keep clean. Instead, an occasional
cleaning will keep the furniture looking new well into the future.
Nothing sticks to or stains HDPE, including red wine. If dirt is allowed
to accumulate rinsing with water usually does the trick, but if
necesarry it can be cleaned with any household cleanser, and will even
withstand bleach. The furniture can be pressure washed but care should
be taken to not apply too much pressure as this may "feather"
the surface. Our furniture is indeed Built to Last.
We use 2x6 and 2x4 pieces for the frame which is key to its structural
integrity. The seat and back slats and arms are made of 1x material with
routered edges and countersunk screw holes. The furniture is assembled
with stainless steel square drive screws. The square drive prevents
stripping and breakdown common to phillips screws. We provide a FREE
square drive screwdriver and drill bit with each order.
Not
only is our furniture Built to Last, it's Built for
Comfort as well. When we say our backs are curved we mean they
are contoured to comfortably support your back. Some manufacturers claim
their backs are curved when, in fact, they are flat - they are referring
to the tops of the slats being scalloped which has nothing to do with
comfort. Please keep this in mind, as well as the dimensional
information that follows below, when comparing products. Frankly, we
build a superior product and our factory direct prices offer an
unbeatable value.
Now
a few words on color selection. White is the most popular for a variety
of reasons, the most important being they look elegant and they always
stay cool even in the bright, hot sun. The sunlight and heat is
reflected away from the surface. In contrast, the cedar and weathered
(shown above) are dark and absorb heat. They will become hotter than
wood and are not recommended in non-shaded applications. Sand falls
somewhere in between white and these and the heat absorption is
comparable to wood. Our original pastels are light colored by design to
minimize heat absorption and will be cooler than sand and only slightly
warmer than white.
